In a major blow to the Sanjha Morcha, former MLA of SAD and son of Morcha patron Surjit Singh Barnala,Gaganjit Singh Barnala,is likely to join the Congress. Gaganjit belongs to SAD (Longowal),a constituent party of the Morcha led by Manpreet Singh Badal.

A former Akali MLA from Dhuri,in 1997,Gaganjit had won an election on a SAD ticket. “Gaganjit had met Congress president Sonia Gandhi and his induction into the party is almost finalised. The only problem is that he wants a ticket from Dhuri, while the Congress is insisting that he should join unconditionally,” said a close associate of Gaganjit.

There is already a problem in the Congress camp at Dhuri,as two PPCC members, two municipal councilors and two former block presidents had declared they will not support sitting MLA Kewal Dhillon if he is given a ticket from the constituency . These leaders are considered to be close to Sangrur MP Vijay Inder Singla.
