Before the title clash, both Surjit Hockey Academy,Jalandhar, and Chandigarh Football Hockey Academy, looked rusty, specially in front of the goal,as both the teams scraped through into the final after defeating their respective opponents in the semi-finals of the 11th ONGC SN Vohra Memorial Under-14 hockey tournament being held at the Sector 42 Stadium,on Saturday. While Surjit Hockey Academy warmed up for the final with a narrow 2-1 win over CRZ School,Sonepat, the CFHA team edged past SGS Vidya Mandir,Ratwar Sahib through a solitary goal scored by Pushpinder.
Earlier, the Surjit Hockey Academy faced a resilient CRZ team in the semi-final match. Sunny gave the CRZ team a surprise lead by banging in the opening goal in as early as the fifth minute of the match by converting a penalty corner. With both the sides looking threating from set-pieces,the defenders had a torrid time in containing the forwards. The Surjit Academy team finally managed to restore parity when Gurpreet successfully converted a penalty corner in the 29th minute of the match.
With the score locked at 1-all,both the teams went all guns blazing in the dying minutes of the match. For their hard work, the Surjit Academy forwards were awarded with a superb goal. The match-winning goal was scored by Kuljeet in the 48th minute of the match.
