The Bharatiya Janata Party has given a call for bandh in the city for September 20 as part of its nationwide programme. The bandh would be against FDI in retail,coal scam and increase in the prices of fuel. President of the city unit of the party Sanjay Tandon said that inflation was already putting a burden on the common man. The rise in the price of diesel and LPG had added to the woes of the common man. Tandon appealed to the city residents to support the bandh.
Meanwhile,an emergency meeting of office-bearers of Chandigarh Beopar Mandal was held and it was decided that they would join the bandh on a call given by Bharatiya Udyog Beopar Mandal.
The traders were of the view that FDI in multi-brand retail would prove a death knell for the local traders.
