In an epic final,using his cue to good effect,Sumit Talwar of Chandigarh got the better of Rajat Khaneja in an evenly contested encounter to win the first tournament of The ProCircuit League 6-tournament series held at Asia Billiards,Sector 34,on Sunday night.
Keeping his nerves in a tense situation,Sumit emerged triumphant 3-2,to pocket the title. On his way to the title,he also crafted the highest break of 63.
As both the players took their positions and looked to pot the ball,the onlookers watched with bated breath. With both the players going neck to neck,it was difficult to predict who would go on to win the first frame. However,Sumit kept his nerves and played some intelligent shots to take the first frame 78-77.
In the second frame,Sumit lost his momentum and making full use of this,Rajat came from behind to level the score at 1-all after clinching the second frame 58-55. Stung by this,Sumit soon gathered his act and played wonderfully well to win the third frame 65-23,but Rajat,like a phoenix,rose to the occassion and levelled the score at 2-2 after winning the fourth frame 89-45.
With the heat building up and tension looming large inside the room,both the players began their campaign in the deciding frame. However,the day clearly belonged to Sumit as he went after the coveted balls and won 68-40 to clinch the deciding frame,and also net the title.
Earlier,in the semi-finals,Sumit outplayed Divya Sharma 3-0,while Rajat blanked Aneesh Saini of Haryana 3-0 in a lop-sided encounter.
