Reacting to the incidents of sacrilege and slamming the Punjab Police for opening fire on protesters, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday said such incidents were “engineered by political parties for vested political interests”.
In a two-minute video uploaded on YouTube on Saturday, Kejriwal said: “I just heard that some people desecrated the Sri Guru Granth Sahib in Kotkapura a few days ago. It pained me a lot. Those who did so committed a shameful act. I also heard that people were protesting peacefully and police opened fire in which some persons were killed… We also need to understand that such kind of acts are engineered only by political parties (Lekin hamen ye bhi samjhne ki jaroorat hai ki is kism ki harkaten kewal political parties hi karvaatin hain). By engineering such acts, they (political parties) aim to make us fight with each other and divide us for the vested political interests (Is tarah ki harkaten kar ke ye hamein aapas mein larana chahti hain, baantna chahti hai aur apni rajnitik rotian sekna chahti hai).”
He added: “If we get misled by political parties and started fighting with each other, they (political parties) will continue to loot us, drugs would continue in Punjab, farmers would continue to die in Punjab and our development would come to a halt”.
Kejriwal demanded strict action against those who committed the sacrilegious act and against police officials who opened fire on the protestors.
Buoyed by the tremendous results in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls in Punjab – AAP won on only four seats and all the four MPs of party had won from Punjab – AAP is preparing hard for the 2017 assembly polls and has been leaving nothing to chance to make its presence felt on the burning issues in state.
AAP Punjab convenor Sucha Singh Chhotepur has been equally if not more critical of the sacrilege and incidents that followed as the opposition Congress in state. The party has already embarked on Punjab Jodo campaign in the run up to 2017 assembly polls. How seriously AAP is taking Punjab could be gauged from the fact that the official twitter account of AAP is running a header photo of ‘#PUNJABJODO’where along with Kejriwal’s photo, a number for giving missed call is mentioned to become member.
