According to the victim,he was attacked by one Ginda, resident of Jhampur village, and his accomplices because he had asked them not to harass a girl in the college. The girl, who is a relative of a friend of Arshdeep, was repeatedly being harassed by Ginda even though he was an outsider, said Arshdeep, adding that because he had asked him (Ginda) to stay away from the girl,he was attacked while he was leaving the college.

“A large group of outsiders, armed with deadly weapons, started thrashing me right outside the college. I was hit on the head several times with a spade. It was only when two women constables who were patrolling the area in a vehicle arrived at the scene that the attackers ran away,” Arshdeep said.

He added that another first-year student in the college,Deepu, resident of Jhampur, was involved in the attack and frequently brought Ginda and his friends to the college.

A complaint was registered at the Phase 1 police station and the matter is being investigated, the police said.
