Parkash Singh Badal was unanimously elected as the leader of SAD-BJP Legislative Party on Friday,setting in motion the process of his swearing-in as the chief minister of Punjab for the fifth time. Governor Shivraj V Patil has invited him to form the government.
Speaking after his election,Badal said he was falling short of words to express his gratitude to all MLAs,who have given him this enormous responsibility.
When I became chief minister for the first time in 1970,I was the youngest CM of the country. Now,I will be the oldest chief minister in the country, he added.
Thanking BJP,Badal said that the SAD-BJP alliance shared an emotional relationship.
Describing the Assembly polls as the semi-final for 2014 Lok Sabha elections,Badal said that both SAD and BJP will work collectively to win all 13 seats in Punjab,decimating the Congress from the political scene.
Earlier,in a meeting of the SAD Legislative Party,Badal was unanimously elected as the partys patron.
Meanwhile,in a meeting of the newly elected 12 MLAs of the BJP,Jalandhar (West) MLA Chunni Lal was unanimously elected as leader of the BJP Legislative Party in Punjab.
