In a case of speedy justice,the Court of Additional District and Sessions Judge on Tuesday decided a case of sexual assault on a minor,within a month.

The case was assigned to Additional District and Sessions Judge Preeti Sahni in the first week of August. Holding the man guilty of sexually assaulting an eight-year-old,the judge awarded five years rigorous imprisonment to Mukesh,a rickshaw-puller. Also,a penalty of Rs 1000 has been slapped on the accused.

An FIR was registered on the complaint of the father of the victim on May 4,a day after the accused had lured the victim with some eatables and sexually assaulted him. According to the complainant the victim,who went outside to buy some eatables,asked for the help from Mukesh to cross the road. Mukesh took the child along with him and sexually assaulted him. He left the boy at his house the next morning. The child told his parents that the man had told him that he would come again to meet him. The accused,who was found at a market near the complainant’s house,was identified and arrested.

Mukesh was convicted under Section 10 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act,which states that “whoever commits aggravated sexual assault shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which shall not be less than five years but which may extend to seven years and shall also be liable to fine.

He was also awarded concurrent punishment of three year imprisonment and Rs 1,000 fine under Section 365 (Kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person) under the Indian Penal Code.
