Soni: Sidhu claimed credit for works done by Congress govt

Congress candidate for Amritsar constituency Om Parkash Soni today launched a tirade against BJP MP Navjot Sidhu and called him a liar.

Congress candidate for Amritsar constituency Om Parkash Soni today launched a tirade against BJP MP Navjot Sidhu and called him a liar.

While addressing mediapersons,Soni said the credit for various development works carried out in the constituency by the previous Congress regime in the state and the UPA at the Centre was being claimed by Sidhu.

Soni said the elevated road,four-laning of Amritsar-Jalandhar and Amritsar-Attari roads,funds released under Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission (JNURM) for city’s development,expansion of Rajasansi Airport,construction of Gateway of India at Chheherta and central university were the projects initiated by former CM Amarinder Singh’s government and the UPA.

“This is not a television show… Elections are a serious matter,” said Soni.

“I do not know how to crack jokes. I do not use jargon. I talk facts,” said Soni,who was flanked by senior party leadership,who posed a united face. “I was Mayor of the city from 1991 to 1995 and then remained MLA continuously. People know the works I have carried out. I have a vision for the urban and rural areas of the constituency. I will bring industry,SEZ and infrastructural development,” claimed Soni.

MLA and contender for the ticket Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria,former MLAs Harpartap Singh Ajnala,Darbari Lal,Sawinder Kathunangal,Jugal Kishore Sharma,HS Thekedar,DCC (Rural) chief SRS Lally Majithia and Women Cell chief Ratna were also present on the occasion.

When asked about the absence of former MLA Dr Raj Kumar and former mayor Sunil Datti,Soni said the latter was out of town and he could not speak to the former. Soni said Sidhu has been saying that he started the Amritsar-Haridwar train,which was started by Dr Manmohan Singh.
