Snatchers targeted two women, including a college student, and fled with their belongings in Sector 42 and Sector 35 on Wednesday. Neha Rani, a resident of Kurali and student of Government College for Girls Sector 42, was going to the nearby bus stop from the college when two motorcycle borne persons snatched her purse containing Rs 800 and other documents.
One of the snatchers was wearing a turban and another was wearing safety gear on his head. Neha attempted to note down the registration number of the motorcycle but failed to do so. She lodged an FIR at Sector 36 police station. In her statement to the police, Neha gave the description of the clothes worn by both the snatchers.
Another incident took place when Pooja Bhardwaj, a resident of Sector 35, was coming out from her car along with her two children and one youth snatched her purse. The incident took place around 7.45pm. The police said Pooja caught one side of her purse’ stripe and attempted to resist the snatcher. She, however, fell on the road and the snatcher fled with her purse. Pooja’s purse contained cash of Rs 10,000, a cellphone and other documents.
Naseeb Singh, station house officer, Sector 36 police station, said: “Pooja lodged an FIR but she failed to note down the registration number of the motorcycle. Following the two incidents of snatching, we enhanced anti-snatching nakas in our areas.” A case was registered at Sector 36 police station.
More than 160 incidents of snatching have reported in Chandigarh in the past 10 months.
