A Sikh man from Khanna town of Ludhiana district has been shot dead in Manila city of the Philippines. His family members back home said they got a call on Saturday evening about the incident.
Identified as Gurdev Singh (58), he was a native of Nand Singh Avenue of Khanna and was working as a financier in the Philippines.

Lakhwinder Singh, a relative of the deceased, said that both Gurdev and his son worked as financiers in Manila. However, his son had come back and Gurdev was living alone in the Philippines capital. “He was shot dead by unidentified assailants on Saturday afternoon when he was returning home from work,” he said.
“It has been nearly five years since Gurdev went to the Philippines to start his financial business. He visited home and went back just a few months ago,” he added.
The family said that a few minutes before the cold-blooded murder, Gurdev had spoken to his daughter over a video call.

Gurdev Singh is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son. One of his daughters is married.
The family has sought the central government’s help to bring back Gurdev’s mortal remains at the earliest. “It might take 10-15 days or even more to bring the body back. We urge the Centre to help us in getting the body home at the earliest. Financial issues might be the reason behind the killing but nothing is clear yet,” said Lakhwinder.
Another relative, Lakhvir Singh Bhatti, said Punjabis were unsafe abroad and that the central government should take a serious note of it.
