Sidhu Moosewala Antim Ardas highlights: A large number of people including men, children and women assembled from various parts of Punjab and other states to attend the ‘antim ardas‘ and ‘bhog‘ ceremonies of Moosewala at Anaj Mandi in Mansa. In an emotional appeal to the fans and others who gathered in Punjab’s Mansa district Wednesday to pay their last respects to singer Shubhdeep Singh alias Sidhu Moosewala, his mother urged everyone to plant a sapling in her son’s memory.

Moosewala was shot dead in Punjab’s Mansa district on May 29, a day after the state government withdrew his security cover along with that of over 400 others. The state police had termed the incident a case of an inter-gang rivalry and had said the Lawrence Bishnoi gang was behind it. Canada-based Goldy Brar, who is the member of Bishnoi gang, had claimed the responsibility of the murder. This murder was in retaliation of youth Akali leader Vicky Middukhera’s murder that took place last year, he had claimed.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Police Tuesday said they have arrested eight people on the charges of providing logistic support, conducting recce and harbouring the shooters of the singer and Congress leader Sidhu Moosewala. They also claimed to have identified four shooters who were involved in the crime.

Explained: ‘Tibbeyan da putt’ and the Moosewala connection

In the tributes pouring in for the Punjabi singer-politician Shubhdeep Singh alias Sidhu Moosewala (28) from across the world, after his cold-blood murder on May 29 shook Punjab, he is being widely called ‘Tibbeyan da Putt’. The expression now being used for the slain singer, however, has a deeper significance and connection with the geography, literature and music of Punjab.

Tibbeyan da putt: The word & Punjab’s geography

The word ‘tibbe’ used both in Punjabi and Hindi primarily refers to sand dunes or hills, on a stretch of land that is not levelled.

In Punjab, the Malwa belt comprising south-western districts such as Bathinda, Mansa, Fazilka, Muktsar and some parts of Faridkot and Ferozepur – was once known for sand dunes or ‘ret ke tibbe’, due to the semi-arid and hot, desert-like climatic conditions. Read more

Opinion | Sidhu Moosewala’s music transcended regional boundaries

Ferocious storms, overlapping as well as self-contradictory, seemed to blow over Punjab and the world of music when the news came that Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu (popularly known as Sidhu Moosewala) had died in a brutal, yet cowardly, shooting near his village in the Mansa district.

The scale of the outpouring of grief over his death in India generally, but especially in Punjab was massive; no other individual death in living memory in Punjab has provoked such mass grief.

Public grief was exacerbated by the fact that Moosewala, who symbolised bravery and talent, was cut down in his prime. Such tragic losses evoke many powerful emotional responses. Read more

Watch: Crowds throng Moosa village for Sidhu Moosewala 'antim ardas'

A large number of people including youth, children and women assembled from various parts of Punjab and other states to attend the 'antim ardas' (marking the end of last rituals for the deceased) and 'bhog' ceremony of Moose Wala Anaj Mandi.

Since Moosewala's death, political leaders have visited his family in their native village, with the latest visit from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The AAP was initially criticised widely for not reaching out to the family, until Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann visited them last week.

After Moosewala's killing, the state police had termed the incident as a case of an inter-gang rivalry. The Lawrence Bishnoi gang was said to be behind the murder. Canada-based Goldy Brar, who is a member of the Bishnoi gang, had claimed the responsibility for the murder. This murder was in retaliation of youth Akali leader Vicky Middukhera's murder that took place last year.

Meanwhile, sources in Mumbai Police confirmed Monday that police patrolling outside actor Salman Khan’s apartment at Bandstand in Bandra (west) has been increased and security given to the actor has been beefed up after a threat letter was found near his residence Sunday morning.

The letter reportedly stated, “Salim Khan, Salman Khan bahot jald aapka Moosewala hoga k G.B.L.B (You will become like Moosewala).” The police said GB and LB mean Goldy Brar, a Canada-based criminal, and Lawrence Bishnoi, a jailed gangster, who have claimed responsibility for Moosewala's killing.
