Two police officials, a Sub-Inspector (SI) and an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), have been apprehended for their involvement in the release of a notorious drug dealer. The incident occurred in Kapurthala, Punjab, where the accused officials allegedly accepted a bribe of Rs. 20 lakh to set the drug dealer free.

The Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Kapurthala, Rajpal Singh Sandhu, revealed that the investigation was initiated after the Jalandhar Rural police arrested Gujral Singh, known as Joga, a resident of Boot village. It was discovered that before his arrest, Gujral Singh had been deliberately released by SI Harjit Singh of Thana Kotwali Kapurthala and ASI Parmjit Singh, who was in charge of Police Chowki Badshahpur. The bribe was facilitated by a middleman named Onkar Singh, also known as Kari, hailing from Boot village.

Taking swift action, a case has been registered against SI Harjit Singh and ASI Parmjit Singh under sections 222/120B of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 at Subhanpur police station. Two dedicated teams, led by SP (D) Ramninder Singh, have been formed to crack the case. Extensive raids were conducted at multiple locations, resulting in the successful arrest of ASI Parmjit Singh and the middleman, Onkar Singh.

In an effort to bring the main suspect, SI Harjit Singh, to justice, a lookout circular (LOC) has been issued against him. Authorities are making persistent efforts to locate and apprehend him as soon as possible.

During the raids, investigators seized a significant amount of cash and various bank documents from the residences of the accused individuals. These items are currently undergoing thorough investigation to gather additional evidence.

Gujral Singh, the drug dealer at the center of this scandal, is no stranger to legal troubles. He was already facing multiple cases related to drug-related offenses at various police stations.

SSP Sandhu said strict action will be taken against any officials involved in such illicit activities.
