The Cyber Cell of the Chandigarh Police on Tuesday arrested a shopkeeper for allegedly making a fake account of his acquaintance on social networking site Facebook. The accused identified as Manish Singla,runs a garments shop.
During investigation,the Cyber Cell sent the link of the fake account to Facebook India. The company,in turn,sent the IP address and other contact details of the person using the fake account to the Chandigarh Police.
The Cyber Cell found that the IP address which was used to create the fake account was Singlas.
On November 30,a resident of Sector 15 alleged that her acquaintance,also residing in the same locality,made a fake account of hers on Facebook.
Police said,while surfing Facebook,the victim noticed a fake account of hers on the website with her real pictures posted on it. A few comments were also posteds.
The victim suspected Singla,35,of committing the offence as for past few days,Singla was allegedly stalking the victim.
Singla,however,was not present in the victims friend list on her real Facebook account. The victim,40,is married and works in a private company,police said. A case under Section 507 (criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication) of the IPC and under Section 66-A (sending offensive messages through communication service) and Section-D (cheating by personation by using computer resource) of the IT Act has been registered with the Sector 11 police.
