Sidhu said that if the Chief Minister is that serious to make Mohali a smart city, then emphasis should be laid on fulfilling all the criteria related to it. Only then will this dream be able to materialise. Former Cabinet minister and senior BJP leader Balbir Sidhu has called on the Punjab government to shift temporary liquor vends to established markets.
Sidhu argued that these temporary sheds have become a nuisance for people in the city and if the Chief Minister is serious about law and order, he should immediately take action in this direction.
Sidhu said that shifting the temporary liquor vends to established markets would reduce the problems associated with these outlets.
“Established markets already have infrastructure in place to organise and manage transactions. It is also safer,” Sidhu said.
He called this the first initiative toward making Mohali a Smart City. Sidhu cited the example of Chandigarh Administration for stringently eliminating such sheds. He said that similarly, the same decision should be taken for Mohali as well.

He said that currently, open thekas/liquor shops are operating near YPS chowk, sector 69-70 light points near Sohana gurdwara. He alleged that these open shops are becoming a cause of trouble for nearby residents.
