Compared to the last 11 years, the last 11 days have been a blur, throwing him and his life into a frenzy of
activity, literally driving him to the edge of exhaustion. So much so that,of all the people,Shekhar Suman admits that he is tired of hearing himself talk all the time. I cant imagine what disastrous effect my constant blabber has had on people all these years, exclaims Suman,
as he takes a break and connects over phone from Mumbai to explain why it took him 11 years to come back with his famous talk show,Movers & Shakers, which started yesterday.
Eleven years,800 shows and 1,500 people, he lists the numbers his show reached on Sony back then. When we started,I was committed to Sony for 15 years for the show,to run it as long as I wanted. Time passed and the show went from once a week to daily schedule. It was all I heard about and did, and, before it could consume me,I opted out, says Suman, who moved on to pursue his real passion acting. Im not a host. Being an anchor or host is an extension of the actor in me, he says. But life,as Suman agrees, always comes to a full circle.
Suman is back on air with his second honeymoon of Movers & Shakers every night on Sab TV. Cosmetic changes apart, the show has retained the old format with all the celebrity interviews, gags, lip syncs, political satire, leg pulling, language and humour. But nothing below the belt, he assures.
Much has changed over the last decade Twitter,Facebook, and politics have transformed society. Suman says he will have to tone it down on the new innings of Movers & Shakers. People have become too sensitive over the last couple of years, and I would like to go easy on them, he says.
The popularity of the show created a strong recall value that Suman is exploiting by airing flashbacks and nuggets from previous interviews. The live Rubberband section will feature new singers, including Pia from Indian Idol and have Surinder on the tabla leading them.
Despite an evolved and fine-tuned format,Suman says the spirit of the show will remain the same the ability to laugh at yourself. This explains his first guest Govinda. I wanted the common mans crusader Anna Hazare, but things didnt work out,so its Govinda. If anyone is moving and shaking, its him. He has lost 28 kg,has an X factor and is taking on life all over again, explains Suman. Hockey players whove made it to the Olympics, too, were flown in from Chandigarh for a one-on-one. This time,Suman wants to thrash it out with Laloo Prasad and get Raj Thackeray too.
From being a TV host, actor and singer to dancing in Jhalak Dikhla Ja,Suman says he is getting greedier with age and wants to do everything to be the perfect actor.
His next project is directing a medical romantic thriller with his son,Adhyayan Suman in the lead. Weve asked Giselle Monteiro of Love Aaj Kal to be a part of this project, he adds. He will also be seen as a cop in a comedy of errors called Chalu Movies.
