Next time you enter a police station in Panchkula to register any complaint, you do not need to interact with the munshi. Instead, you will find a Senior Duty Officer (SDO) of the rank of Assistant Sub Inspector or Junior Duty Officer (JDO) just near the entry gate and ready to listen to your complaint. If they find that you need immediate police help, these officers will ensure the same without any delay.

The Panchkula police has introduced this new system for the ‘efficient and effective policing’ in the district and to ensure that designated police officers are deployed at the police stations for specific jobs.

“The munshis used to handle all the complaints at the police stations in the past.. They had a lot of work to do and also maintain 25 diaries every day. By introducing the new system,we have taken away some workload from them. If the SDO or his deputy finds a prima facie, they can register a case,”said Panchkula Deputy Commissioner of Police Maneesh Chaudhary.

The DCP said that the SDO and JDO will be available in the police station round the clock. Police has also fixed sign boards at all the police stations to explain the working of SDOs and JDOs.

Chaudhary said that anyone who makes a complaint with SDOs or JDOs will get a receipt instantly and they can inquire about the status of their complaints from the police station anytime. The introduction of receipts of complaints would ensure that police officers take complaints seriously. “The SHO will submit a monthly report on number of complaints received and their status report. It will make them more accountable,” said a police officer.
