INFUSION-2013,a two-day national seminar on Mixology: Orientation and Modernism organised by the University Institute of Hotel Management and Tourism (UIHMT),Panjab University (PU),began at the ICSSR hall on Thursday.
Mixology is the term used for mixing drinks or bartending.
A total of 70 participants,including students,practitioners and faculties from various parts of the country are participating in the seminar organised to focus on bar practices,especially mixology.
The main objective of the seminar-cum-workshop was to redefine Standard Operating Procedure (SOPs) of mixology in particular and bar practices in general.
Inaugurating the workshop,Registrar of Companies Dr Raj Singh emphasised on creation,benchmarking and inculcation of best practices among hospitality professionals.
Vice-president of PU Alumni Association S C Kohli,who was guest of honour on the occasion,emphasised the need of filling the gap between the academic centres and the industry.
Speaking on the occasion,UIHMT director Professor R K Gupta announced such workshops would form an integral part of the activities calendar of the department. Beverage is a major component of the hospitality industry. Whether it be board rooms or social gatherings,the quality expected for bar hospitality has raised manifold. The subject requires both the academia and professionals to redefine the real state-of-the art in mixology.
In the afternoon session at The Green Ivy,the UIHMT restaurant,Director of After 5 Academy,Chandigarh,Saroj Gulati trained the delegates in mixology using modern equipments and methods.
Gulati emphasised on innovations in this branch of bar practices,while director F&B,J W Mariott,Chandigarh,Manmeet Singh also interacted with the participants.
