Residents of Sector 49, Chandigarh, are complaining about the poor condition of sanitation and problem of encroachment in the area. The residents allege that while several complaints have been made, no action has been taken by the concerned authorities.
Vice-chairman of the Ward Committee, Ward-13, Pardeep Bhardwaj, says that the parks of the sector are also not clean. Dustbins have been put up in the park, but the garbage is not picked. He added that though he had talked to officials of the municipal corporation, action is awaited.
“A vegetable vendor has set up a stall near the entrance of the apartments, making it an accident-prone area. Even after a lot of complaints, the unauthorised stall has not been removed,” said V K Bali, president of PEC Employees Co-operative House Building Society, Sector 49.
A lot of commodities being sold at the shops lie outside, leaving very less space to walk.
“Not only Sector 49, the same problems prevail in the adjoining sectors like sectors 48-51. There is also no playground,” said Bhardwaj.
Issues like slow development of the park and green belt are also troubling the residents of the area. They rue that no special bus services have been provided to them to and fro from the Mohali railway station.
