The overbridge being constructed in Sector 17 is expected to be inaugurated by September this year. A total of 40 shops are also being constructed under it. The construction of the overbridge, which was part of the original plan of the citys creator Le Corbusier, was started last year.
The overbridge would be 22-foot wide and have pedestrian walkways on both sides. There would be space for shops below and for offices at the top. The MC is yet to take a decision on how the shops would be allotted. A proposal has been mooted for construction of a 24×7 food street in the area, the approval for which has been sought from the Administration.
At present, the area is undeveloped. A large number of offices are present here. A proposal has been included in the Master Plan for shifting out the offices from the ground floor. Another proposal is to allow commercial activity on the upper storeys as well.
The MC will inaugurate several projects over the next four months. These would include underground water reservoirs that have been constructed in different sectors. The reservoirs have been constructed in Sectors 29 C,31 D,39 B,46 C,47 A and 48 C.
During peak summers, several areas face water shortage with water not reaching the upper storeys. It had then been proposed that reservoirs be constructed to address this problem. The Administration approved the site last year .
Two community centres are also going to be inaugurated. The community centre in Sector 27 would be the first to be inaugurated on August 22. Greenbelts in some sectors are also in line to be inaugurated.
