A 60-year-old woman was allegedly bitten by a stray dog in Sector 28 on Saturday morning, barely 24 hours after a similar incident was reported from the area a day earlier.
As per details, the victim in Saturday’s case, one Veena Arora, was standing near the gate of her residence when a brown coloured stray dog allegedly came charging at her and bit her on her right leg. The incident, Arora claimed, took place around 7 am on Saturday.
Interestingly, locals claimed that the second dog bite incident took place an hour or so after a dog catching team from the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation team had visited the area to enquire about Friday’s incident and to identify the pack of dogs involved.
On Friday, a pack of stray dogs attacked a 37-year-old woman in Chandigarh’s Sector 28, leaving her injured.
The victim in Friday’s case, identified as Ram Kali, had stepped outside her house for a morning walk, when a pack of four dogs attacked her around 7.20 am. She was rushed to the civil dispensary in Sector 19 and given anti-rabies shots, before being discharged. The dog catching visited Sector 28 on Saturday morning after a complaint filed by Vir Chand, the husband of Ram Kali.
“A team from the civic body visited Ram Kali on Saturday morning. They enquired about the particular pack of dogs which had attacked her. The team was told that there are at least two locations where the pack was active,” a family member of Veena Arora said on Saturday.
They added that the team from the civic body had surprisingly asked locals for a picture of the pack of strays that may have attacked Ram Kali on Friday. “We told them that we didn’t have a picture, after which they left. Merely an hour or so after they had left, the second bite incident was reported. We all think that the dog in this case belongs to the pack that was involved in Friday’s attack,” the relative said.
Another local resident of the area said that Veena Arora lived merely three houses away from them. “We think she may have been attacked by a dog which is part of the pack which attacked Ram Kali on Friday. The stray dog
menace has been increasing here everyday. The civic body should take some concrete step on this front,” he said.
In the first week of July too, a pack of stray dogs had allegedly attacked two women who were headed to a park for their morning walk in Sector 28, leaving them severely injured. The victims then were later identified as Anita Aggarwal, 64, and Sunita Aggarwal, 61.
