An FIR under sections 281, 125(A), and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered at Sector 11 police station, Chandigarh, on the complaint of Sunil Kumar Singh, a resident of Naya Gaon.
A scooter rider was killed while another was injured in a road accident on Tuesday afternoon near the Khudda Lahora–Naya Gaon link road in Chandigarh.
As per the police, the incident occurred when a speeding white Scorpio rammed head-on into a scooter coming from the opposite direction, throwing the rider several feet into the air before he fell into the Patiala Ki Rao river.
Eyewitnesses said that the collision was so intense that the scooter was flung into the middle of the river while the rider landed nearly 15 feet away, face down. The locals in the area rushed to the spot, apprehended the Scorpio driver, and immediately informed the police.
The injured, identified as Manpreet Singh and Shivam, were rushed to the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, Chandigarh, from where Shivam was referred to PGIMER, Chandigarh, where doctors declared him brought dead. Shivam, a resident of Naya Gaon, had recently purchased the scooter.
According to the police, the incident happened near the government school around Tuesday afternoon. The accused driver, identified as Manpreet Singh, a resident of Khudda Lahora, has been arrested. The police have impounded both the damaged vehicles and initiated a detailed investigation.
