Poetry competition at St Xavier’s Sr Sec

Lion’s Club Chandigarh organised a declamation and poetry recitation competitions on October 9,2013 in association with Hindi Sahitya Akademi.

As many as 30 Tricity schools participated in the event with 73 contestants in declamation and 77 contestants in poetry recitation competition.

St Xavier’s Senior Secondary School,Chandigarh team comprising Richa Dimri (Class X),Nivedita Sharma (Class IX) ,Shubhanshi Gaur (Class VIII) and Yashika Nayyar (Class XI) won the Asha Trophy 2013.

Yashika Nayyar received the first prize in the declamation category and Richa Dimri got consolation prize in the poetry recitation category.

Shivalik Public School celebrates Dussehra

Shivalik Public School Mohali celebrated Dussehra,the festival that symbolises the victory of good over evil. Presentations,lectures and talk sessions were held. A skit was also performed by students. Principal Satwant Bedi motivated the students through her golden words.

Town Park outing for tiny tots

Saupin’s School,Panchkula organised an outing for the tiny tots of PG to UKG. They were taken to the Town Park for a picnic. Children enjoyed the scenic beauty and played many games at the park. They relished their special tiffins. Such activities are organised to correlate the things they are taught with their daily lives and help them learn in an enjoyable manner.

Handwash activity at Saupin’s School

Handwash activity was conducted by Lifebuoy at Saupin’s School,Panchkula wherein the children were encouraged to wash hands before and after meals. The tips to healthy handwash were imparted to the children. Students were told about the importance of healthy and hygienic lifestyle. Students were motivated and made to realise the need and necessity of washing hands.

Cricket tournament at Saupin’s School

To ensure complete physical fitness and to cater to the recreational needs of the students,inter-house cricket tournament was organised at Saupin’s School,Panchkula. In the semi finals the Sycamore House stood first by 30 runs. House Aspen defeated Maple. In the final match between Sycamore and Aspen,Sycamore won the match by 10 wickets. Cheering by students boosted the enthusiasm of the players.

Paragon Convent forms Peace Club

Peace is a state of harmony characterised by lack of violence,conflict behavior and a freedom from the fear of violence commonly understood as the absence of hostility. The students of Paragon Convent Sch­ool have formed a Peace Club to promote healthy and a non-violent environment in schools. Peace and prosperity for all in matters of social and economic welfare is the motto of this Peace Club. World Peace Day was celebrated in the school with gaiety and togetherness.

Bhavan Vidyalaya organises workshop

Students of LKG of Bhavan Vidyalaya attented a workshop conducted by Dr. Deepa,the doctor of the school. Dr Deepa made students aware of the importance of taking care of private parts of their body. Students were taught how they should raise an alarm incase anybody touches them in an incorrect manner.

Assembly on Indian festivals

Festivals are the heart of Indian culture. In a special morning assembly, students of Class VIII highlighted the significance of the numerous and varied festivals such as Dussehra,Diwali and Eid-ul-Zoha through speeches and enactment of various legends associated with these festivals. Students in colorful costumes of Lord Rama,Lakshman,Ravana and Sita enacted important scenes from Ramayana. They asked the students to burn the evil within them and follow the path of truth and goodness.

Dussehra celebrated at MDAV School

Dussehra was celebrated in the premises of MDAV 22-A. Students showed their feelings of joy in the form of colorful effigies of Ravana,Kumbhkarana and Meghnath. Students participated in various activities. Students were told that how truth won over falsehood in the story of Ram Ravana. Sweets were distributed among the students.

Wildlife conservation week at MDAV School

On the behalf of ECO-CLUB activity,wildlife conservation week is celebrated in MDAV School. Students took participated in drawing and slogan writing competition. They showed awareness about wildlife. Forest and wild animals are depleting with the passage of every single day. Students spoke about the need to protect them.

75 glorious years of Bhavan Vidyalaya

On the occasion of 75the year celebrations and 125th birth anniversary of K M Munshi,a two-day seminar for teacher was conducted in the auditorium at Bhavan Vidyalaya.

Principal Shashi Banerjee gave the welcome speech of the seminar. It was followed by various speakers from English and Hindi department. The speakers expressed their views on various topics such as multifaceted personality Sh K M Munshiji,prophet of Moral and cultural Educationist. The seminar highlighted the contributions of K M Munshi in various fields of education. Also his dedication,selfless efforts,services and devotion to take Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan to a new height and making it a name of National and international acclaim brought to limelight.

A visit to a post office on World Postal Day

Taking into consideration the ‘World Postal Day’ which falls on October 9,2013,around 200 students of The British School of kindergarten and primary-level visited the Post Office in Sector 8,Panchkula. Children and teachers were welcomed warmly by the Post Master,Savita Singal. She explained how letters are collected,segregated,stamped and then stored in pigeon holes for the postmen to collect. Visiting a post-office was something out-of-the-ordinary for the children although post is an ancient form of communication. The postman and other staff members even the public present there were happy and congratulated us on taking the children to such a place in the neighborhood which seems to be losing its significance due to other alternative modes of communication now being available.

The students had a glance of the various counters catering to the public,namely those selling stamps,envelopes,postcards etc. They were explained the way parcels are delivered to different places in the city and places in the country as well as many countries too. While returning they got to see a mail van and were also told the way the letters go by van to the airport and railway station. Senior students made posters and charts on World Postal Day. A power point presentation depicting the history and timeline of Post Office was shown to the children in the morning assembly. Tiny tots of the kindergarten classes put letters and cards in the dummy letter box placed in the school and also in the letter box at the Post Office.

Director of the school,Geetika Sethi said,“Excursions are means of educating ourselves on how certain things work and how we rely on certain services.”

Paragon students visit Verka plant

Emphasising the need for all round development of the students and the need for practical training,a visit to the Verka Plant was organised by Paragon Convent School for the students of Classes VI and VII. The aim of the visit was to make the students aware of the methods used in pasteurisation of milk which is an important dietary supplement and how it reaches our homes after packaging. Students were explained about specialised techniques and the correct temperature and pressure conditions under which milk is pasteurised. The excursion proved to be beneficial for the students who gained firsthand information on how the government ensures the provision of good quality milk products to the citizens. The students witnessed the processing of curd and butter and packaging of milk into purple,green,orange and yellow packets on the basis of standardisation and the fat content of the milk. They also witnessed how samples of milk and milk-based products are collected from time to time for Quality Control.

Dussehra Assembly at Satluj School

Special Dusshera Assembly was conducted on October 10,2013. A skit was conducted by students which conveyed the message of victory of good over evil. Students were dressed as Rama,Sita,Laxman and Ravana. Dusshera Quiz was also conducted. Effigies up to 30 feets of Ravana,Kumbhkarna and Meghnath were prepared by the students. Special Navratra Garba Dance was performed by the students.

Kho Kho tournament at Shishu Niketan

CBSE Cluster XIII Kho-Kho Tournament 2013-14 was organised by Shishu Niketan Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 22-D,Chandigarh. A total of 25 teams from Punjab,Haryana and Himachal Pradesh took part in the tournament that was spread over three days. Students of the school presented a colourful act on CBSE games. Khanderao,Regional Officer,CBSE presided over the opening ceremony as the Chief Guest and encouraged the participating teams to perform to the best of their abilities.

Dussehra celebrations at Sharda School

Students of Sharda Sarhvitkari Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 40-D,Chandigarh,celebrated Dussehra with lot of enthusiasm. A Ramleela was staged by the students of Class 1. Prabha Tripathi spoke about the importance of Navratra and explained the meaning behind celebrating this festival. A bhajan recital followed which enchanted the audience. Principal,BS Kanwar advised the students to follow the ideals of Rama in this modern world.
