The Panchkula NIA court on Monday extended judicial remand of Swami Aseemanand and Kamal Chauhan to July 9 after the National Investigation Agency submitted that it would need more time to complete the investigation and file a supplementary chargesheet against Chauhan.
The NIA had already filed a chargesheet against Swami Aseemanand and Lokesh Sharma, accused in the Samjhauta blast case. But it sought more time to file a supplementary chargesheet against Chauhan, the alleged bomber in the blast case. The NIA court had given 90 days additional time to the NIA to file its supplementary chargesheet. The same stands challenged in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
On Monday, advocate R K Handa, special public prosecutor for NIA,demanded more time to file the supplementary chargesheet. The case will now come up for resumed hearing on July 9. Both Swami Aseemanand and Kamal Chauhan were produced before the NIA court.
Denying any link with Swami Aseemanand, key conspirator in the Samjhauta blast case,Chauhan had earlier said that he did not know Swami Aseemanand.
The NIA had earlier claimed that Chauhans interrogation had revealed that he purchased material to prepare bomb.
