A YOUTH was stabbed to death on the link road between Industrial Area Phase-11 and Dakshin Marg near the Poultry Farm roundabout on Wednesday night. The incident occurred when the 22-year-old Abhishek Shukla, a salesman at Elante Mall in Phase-2, Chandigarh, was returning home around 11 pm. Abhishek was stabbed in the stomach multiple times by his assailants. Police have recovered a knife from the spot, claiming that it was used in the crime. Robbery has been ruled out as reason for the murder as his wallet and cell phone were with him when he was rushed to GMCH, Sector 32, where he succumbed to injury.
A case of murder has been registered at Industrial Area police station and police have begun investigation. Abhishek, who left the Elante Mall around 10.30 pm, was found in an injured condition around 11 pm. He is survived by his parents and three younger sisters, one of whom is married.
Kaushlender Vikram Shukla, Abhishek’s father, who works with a courier company, said, “My son had been working at Elante Mall for the last two months. He did his graduation from Uttar Pradesh through correspondence. He had no personal enmity with anyone. We received a call from the police about the attack on my son and rushed to the hospital. My son died during treatment.”
Though Kaushlender had informed the police that recently Abhishek and his younger sister, Ranjana, had nabbed a thief, Golli, red-handed when he tried to steal their cell phone at Hallomajra and handed over him to the police, police said Golli is lodged inside Model Burail jail.
Inspector Devinder Singh, SHO of PS Industrial Area, said, “We are working on various theories. We have also recorded the statements of Abhishek’s fellow workers. The victim left Elante Mall around 10.30 pm and he used to go home alone.”
Abhishek’s body was handed over to his family after post-mortem. The family members have taken the body to their native place, Balrampur, in UP. A case was registered at Industrial Area police station.
