The Shiromani Akali Dal on Thursday lashed out at UPA governments reported move for a fresh hike in the prices of petrol, diesel,LPG and other petroleum products. A resolution passed at a meeting of the Core Committee on Wednesday evening stated that the move would spiral into a fresh bout of inflation and break the back of the already beleaguered common man.
Nothing affects overall prices as badly as a hike in the price of fuel. Everything from agriculture to transport and industry is directly affected by such a hike. The Union government must desist from an outrage of such brutal insensitivity, said the Core Committee which met under the chairmanship of the party president Sukhbir Singh Badal.
Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badals advisor on national affairs and media,Harcharan Bains, said the party would take the issue of frequent irrational and unjustified price hikes by the UPA government to the people through district level meetings, which will start from next month. He also announced the launch of a membership drive, the schedule for which will be released soon.
Speaking at the meeting,Sukhbir Badal said the UPA government was working on a heinous and cynical plot against state governments, especially non-Congress ruled states, through a series of policies that made release of central funds subject to the levying of taxes against the wishes of state governments.
Giving details of what he described as UPA governments well-laid out and deep-rooted conspiracy to force state governments into a bout of unpopular taxes Sukhbir said that under the conspiracy the Centre was deliberately withholding funds for even the most critical development and social welfare sectors like primary healthcare, education supply of clean drinking water and sewerage etc.,Even our share from central taxes and other funds is being denied on one pretext or the other. The amount of funds with held, delayed or refused runs into thousands of crores, Badal said, adding that the Center was using the false pretext of fiscal prudence to push its economic dictatorship against states.
