Saaniya to lead Chandigarh challenge

Delhi golfer Vani Kapoor will look to continue with her stellar form in the tournament.

Chandigarh golfer Saaniya Sharma will lead Chandigarh challenge in the 13th leg of the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour 2013 to be held at the Jaypee Greens Golf Course here from October 29 to 31.

The Chandigarh golfer finished third in the 12th leg of the Women’s Professional Golf Tour 2013 played at Golden Greens Golf Course,Gurgaon with an overall score of 224. Sharma was in the lead on the opening day of the championship but slipped to the third spot after the last two rounds.

“It was unfortunate to finish third after I managed the lead on the opening day. Double bogeys in the last two rounds spoiled my last two rounds but I am eager to do well this week. The greens are playing well and the fairways are in good condition here and it will be a good contest,” shared the Chandigarh golfer,who is currently lying fifth in the Order of Merit with an earning of Rs 4,67,300 this season. Sharma,whose last win came during the fourth leg of Women’s Professional tour in September,2011,missed the Indian Open last year due to an elbow injury. The golfer will be taking part in this year’s Indian Open which will be played from November 28 to November 30. “I have been troubled by the elbow injury for the last two years but I have been playing on the tour. I will be missing the Thai Open next month before I play in the Indian Open. The Indian Open is one of the top rated tournaments in the domestic circuit and I do not want to miss Indian Open,” shared the golfer.

Delhi golfer Vani Kapoor will look to continue with her stellar form in the tournament. The INR 5,00,000 event will also mark the return of Bangalore golfer Sharmila Nicollet,who is the only Indian to have retained her LET card for two consecutive years. Vani’s win in the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour last week,helped her to move up the ranks to the second spot in the Hero Order of Merit 2013.
