Rs 35,000 in cash, documents stolen after car window smashed in Mohali

According to the complainant, the thieves smashed the driver-side window of his car and stole a bag kept inside.

BJPLocal residents gathered at the spot soon after the theft came to light. Gobind immediately informed the police, following which the police initiated proceedings to register a case.

Unidentified thieves allegedly broke into a parked car in Phase 1, Mohali, and escaped with cash and important documents late on Wednesday night. The incident occurred near the old barrier, where Gobind Singh, who lives in an HE house and runs a meat shop, had parked his vehicle.

According to the complainant, the thieves smashed the driver-side window of his car and stole a bag kept inside. “The bag contained around Rs 35,000 in cash, the vehicle registration papers, and a chequebook,” Gobind told the police.

Before committing the theft, the miscreants also removed the car battery, leading the police to believe the crime may have been carried out by an organised gang. Gobind said he had parked the car outside his house around 11 pm, and discovered the break-in early the next morning when he found the window shattered and valuables missing.

Investigators are now scanning CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify the culprits.
