Rs 1.5 crore sanctioned for horticulture development

Deputy Commissioner Tejinderpal Singh Sidhu Tuesday said that the National Horticulture Mission has allotted funds worth Rs 1.5 crore to the district for the development of horticulture. The technical guidance will be given to the farmers by the Agriculture Department and maize seeds will be provided at 75 per cent subsidised rates,he said.

Sidhu said that loans at lower interest rates will be provided to farmers who are willing to grow flowers,fruits and vegetables rather than the traditional crops. Agriculture and Horticulture departments will jointly organise a training camp at village level in order to spread awareness among farmers regarding benefits of horticulture,and to motivate them to adopt the beneficial practice.
