In a daylight robbery, three persons on Thursday entered a house in Sector 7 and made off with cash and jewellery — the victims have not been able to assess the loss as yet and, moreover,a few of the stolen items were recovered later from one of the accused who was apprehended by a motorcyclist while he was trying to flee.

According to police, the incident happened around 2.30 pm when Sakshi Modi,25,was with her one-year-old son at her residence. Three unidentified men rang the doorbell and introduced themselves as volunteers conducting a survey for making smart cards.

“Sakshi told them she was not interested as her husband and mother-in-law were not home. Before she could close the door, the trio asked her if they could be provided drinking water. By the time she returned with water, they had entered the house, and later forcibly took away her son at knifepoint,” said Inspector Rajkumar.

The police said the accused threatened Sakshi that they would inject her son with snake venom if she did not show them the place where the cash and jewellery were kept. In the meantime,Sakshi’s mother-in-law Rani Modi reached the house and raised the alarm. Sensing danger, the robbers fled with whatever cash and jewellery they could collect.

“The robbers ran in different directions. One of them, identified as Arun, was chased and apprehended by a motorcyclist. He was handed over to the police. However, the other two managed to flee,” added Rajkumar.

The police recovered certain stolen items from Arun, who is from Jalandhar butworks in Manimajra, and are looking for his two accomplices,Lucky and Deepak.
