Residents’ welfare associations raise issue of lack of water supply

Federation of Sectors Welfare Association Chandigarh raised the issue of problem of water supply during a meeting held on Sunday.

Federation of Sectors Welfare Association Chandigarh (FOSWAC) raised the issue of problem of water supply during a meeting held on Sunday. The members said the residents have been troubled by low water pressure and reduction in supply hours since the onset of summers. The members suggested the UT Administration and Municipal Corporation should adopt multi-pronged strategy to tackle the problem. They said check should be kept on the widespread wastage of water for washing cars, floors and free flow of taps from unmetered connections in the slums and colonies. “New tube wells with boosting arrangements should be installed to increase water pressure. Availability of tertiary water for lawns should be expedited. Big Institutions like PGI,PU,Hospitals,CSIO and others should be directed to install their own treatment plants to save water,” they said. It was further suggested that rain water harvesting projects should be implemented to stop depletion of water table. Other issues discussed in the meeting included regular cleaning drives, and tackling stray dog menace.
