Residents have been evacuated from Chandikotla area of Pinjore after some houses caved in due to heavy rain and more than 50 developed cracks. District Administration has prepared a report on the extent of damage to the houses and a compensation is in the offing for houses that have been constructed on shamlat land, officials said.

Officials said preliminary survey revealed that the damage was caused due to the heavy rain. Deputy Commissioner,Panchkula,S S Phulia, said the administration has worked out a report on the extent of damage before the government decides on compensation. He said that the damage was primarily due to heavy rains even as the area is believed to be in high seismic zone.

Sub divisional magistrate,SDM,Panchkula,R K Singh, submitted the report to the district administration on Monday. The DC had sought a revised report as the earlier draft lacked details. The draft report did not list all the damaged houses.

More than 50 houses have witnessed cracks and cave-in in the past one week after incessant rains lashed the area. However, some families have been resisting the bid by the administration to move them out. Officials said that once the administration is through with the report,it will strengthen its evacuation efforts. Officials said residents are demanding houses from the government for the damages that they have suffered.
