The Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) cell of Centre for Industry Institute Partnership Programme (CIIPP),Panjab University (PU),in collaboration with Punjab State Council for Science and Technology (PSCST),Chandigarh,on Monday organised a one-day workshop on IPR Filing Procedures,Patentability Search and Patent Drafting at the seminar Hall of CIL building.
PU Vice-Chancellor Arun Kumar Grover inaugurated the workshop. He talked about the importance of innovative research and highlighted various recent developments being made by PU to promote the same. He emphasized that universities and colleges need to mentor young researchers at the grassroots level and help them to take their inventions into the commercial market. Innovation should also be emphasised and more and more workshops should be organised to motivate the researchers for filing more and more patents, he added.
Director,CIIPP,PU,Professor S K Soni highlighted the importance of the workshop,which was aimed at spreading awareness about intellectual property rights amongst researchers,to help them in planning their research with novel and innovative objectives.
The programme started with a lecture on IPR case studies and facilities provided by PSCST by Gurharminder Singh,senior scientific officer and in-charge Patent Information Centre (PIC) at Punjab State Council for Science and Technology,Chandigarh. This was followed by a vivid description of IPR components of Biological Diversity Act (2002). A Scientist at Intellectual Property Management cell of Institute of Microbial Technology,Chandigarh,Garry Bedi threw light on patent drafting and filing procedures and also conducted an online training session for patent prior-art search.
The workshop was attended by 50 participants including students and faculty members from various neighbouring institutes.
