The Chandigarh Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has directed a city-based distributor of an electronic goods company to repair the refrigerator owned by a city resident for free or refund the money paid by him.
The order was given by the Forum following a complaint filed by Shashi Pal Mahajan,resident of Sector 47. In his complaint,Mahajan stated that in November 2008,he purchased a refrigerator from the distributor for Rs 18,299. The refrigerator had one year warranty,and four years extended warranty for the compressor from the date of purchase.
Mahajan said after installation,he noticed that the cooling of the refrigerator was improper. He lodged several complaints with the customer care unit of the company.
The refrigerator was checked by the representatives of the company several times,but the problem was not resolved. Mahajan stated that initially,the thermostat of the refrigerator was changed.
Then the duct was changed on account that it was causing the problem,but the problem of cooling continued. The complainant said despite sending several reminders to the company,nothing was done to rectify the problem by the company,following which he filed a complaint with the forum.
In its reply,the company stated Mahajan had never made any complaint to the company regarding malfunctioning of the refrigerator.
The company also stated that the refrigerator was sold for Rs 11,499,and not Rs 18,299 as was claimed by the complainant. The company denied the claims made by the complainant.
Forum President Lakshman Sharma and Members Madhu Mutneja and Jaswinder Singh Sidhu directed the company to repair the product for free or refund the money paid by the complainant.
