The long pending issue of the regularisation of Deep Complex at Hallomajra was raised once again during the visit of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram recently. Lack of checks on the construction has led to Deep Complex growing into a colony with a substantial population residing here. The residents have over the past few years been demanding that the area be regularised.

Prior to the Lok Sabha elections in 2009,there were talks of the area being notified soon. However, after the election results were declared, the decision was not implemented. The residents of the area are at present not entitled to any facilities. Water is supplied through tankers. Infrastructure like roads and the sewerage system cannot be provided to the residents.

Interestingly the residents are entitled to vote in the elections of the Municipal Corporation. However the civic body cannot provide any facilities here. Recently, the Punjab Governor and the UT administrator, during a public hearing session, had directed the officials to at least provide basic facilities to the area. However, this has not yet been executed.

“I have raised the issue on many platforms. It is important that the notification for the area comes soon so that some development work can be done here,” said area councillor Jannat Jahan .

She added that four MPs from the BSP have sought time from the UT administrator to hold a discussion with him on the issue.
