Bittu Sandhu is looking forward to the year. The Rani Breast Cancer Trust, set up by her,is gearing up for new awareness projects on breast cancer. And for her latest fundraiser, she has roped in Punjabi singer Harbhajan Mann. Mann will be shaking a leg for the cause of breast cancer on June 18 at the Parade Ground. Im with you and I feel for the cause. Harbhajan said it all with these few words and yes,he promises one amazing evening, says Sandhu, who believes that Punjabi music gets the crowd moving.
Sandhu set up the Trust after she lost her sister,Rani,to breast cancer. She reaches out to women in urban and rural areas through seminars in schools and colleges, walkathons and informal meetings. But arranging for funds is always a concern. Last year, she had Gurdas Maan live concert. It was our first fundraiser and we could not have got a better voice and a more solid start than Gurdas Maan, who is family to me and for whom Rani was like sister, she adds.
She is now working on a project thats close to her heart – spreading awareness about cervical cancer and also provide Pap smears to women. We want to dispel various myths about cancer. We now have a helpline and hope to involve more people with us, says Sandhu.
