Coming into the match with the Under-14 title in his kitty,everybody had expected Paramveer Singh Bajwa to canter to another memorable victory and annex his second title of the CLTA-AITA Championship Series. However,he barged into Ranjit Singh,another CLTA trainee,and lost hold of the game and also the boy’s Under-18 singles title.
At the CLTA Stadium in Sector 10,Paramveer was confidence personified as he took on Ranjit. While on the curent form Paramveer was the player to watch out for,Ranjit played surprisingly well and won the marathon final match that lasted for 2 hours and 45 minutes.
Having played five rounds of qualifying matches each,both the players looked to make a good start into the match. Ranjit,however,gained the upper hand when he claimed the first set 6-2. Seeing the match slipping away from his hands,Paramveer fought back and levelled by winning the second set 6-4.
In the final set,Ranjit was in good touch and looked set to win the match as he was leading 4-1 and then was ahead by 5-2,but Paramveer counter attacked and saved two match points to stay afloat in the match.
Breathing down Ranjit’s neck at 4-5,Paramveer looked to take the momentum forward but Ranjit finally won the fifth match point to annex the title by winning the set 6-4.
Meanwhile,Mihika Yadav iof Maharashtra made short work of top seed Rajbir Kaur of Punjab 6-0,6-2,to win the girl’s Under-18 title. Mihika looked in total control throughout the match and never allowed the top seeded player to settle down.
She then went on to win her second title of the day by clinching the girl’s Under-18 doubles title. She parterned with Gayatri Kumariah to beat Vinita Singh and Anupreet Bedi 6-4,7-6 (4),in an exciting encounter.
