After their recent exposure trip to Madrid,where they trained under renowned coaches for three weeks,Ranjit Singh and Vikrant Dahiya played for the first time and reached the semi-finals of the UT Open Tennis Tournament Under-19

After their recent exposure trip to Madrid,where they trained under renowned coaches for three weeks,Ranjit Singh and Vikrant Dahiya played for the first time and reached the semi-finals of the UT Open Tennis Tournament Under-19 (boys and girls) at Lake Sports Complex,on Friday. Looking sharp and composed,both Ranjit and Vikrant raked up impressive victories in their quarterfinal encounters. Later,they paired to reach the boys’ Under-19 doubles semi-finals.

Ranjit,who over the course of three weeks in Madrid won a title and finished as runner-up,outplayed Dheer Anush Bhatti 8-4 in the quarter-final encounter. Both Ranjit and Bhatti had earlier registered thumping 8-0 victories over their respective opponents in the pre-quarters. While Ranjit thrashed Puru 8-0,Bhatti also did not lose a single game and blanked Mandeep 8-0.

On the other hand,Dahiya,who also came up with several impressive performances in Madrid,defeated Manjot Singh 8-3. He had earlier overcame Paramveer Bajwa 8-6 in the third round. Meanwhile,the other two players to reach the boys’ Under-19 singles semi-finals were Digvijay Partap and Param Pun. Partap crushed Sabrang Sandal 8-2 while Param got the better of Himanshu Saini 8-5.

In the doubles encounter,Ranjit and Dahiya gelled well to register an emphatic 0-4,4-1,7-2 win against Manjot Singh and Karan. After stuttering in the first round,which they lost 0-4,Ranjit and Dahiya made a superb comeback and claimed the second set 4-1. They also won the final set 7-2. Paramveer Bajwa and Param Pun also reached the doubles semis by registering a crushing 4-0,4-0 win over Puru and Siddharth.

Meanwhile,in the girls’ Under-19 singles,Aarushu Kakkar played well during her impressive 8-2 win over Pious Mugdil,to reach the semis. She was joined by CLTA mate Charvi Saxena who easily defeated Gayatri 8-3. On the other hand,Preet Nain Grewal outclassed Smeera 8-2 and Himanshika defeated Garima Mann 8-4.
