Five goals by Ranjan Negi propelled SGGS College,Sector 26,Chandigarh to an emphatic 9-1 win over AS college,Khanna in a league match of the Panjab University Inter-College Football (Men) A Division Championship being played at PU grounds on Wednesday.

In a match completely dominated by SGGS College,Sector 26,Chandigarh forwards,Negi scored five goals while Sidhanth scored four goals. Harmandeep scored the solitary goal for the AS College,Khanna. In another match in the same category,DAV College,Hoshiarpur registered a 5-1 win over GNN College,Doraha. David scored a hat-trick for the winning team while Jaskaran and Jatinder scored one goal each. It was easy going for SGGS Khalsa College,Mahilpur as they registered a 3-0 win over BAM Khalsa College,Garhshankar.

Karan,Kawalpreet hog spotlight

It was a day of records as five new meet records were set up on the opening day of the Panjab University Inter-College Swimming (Men and Women) Championship at PU Swimming Pool. In the men’s category,Karan Brar of DAV College,Chandigarh won two gold medals and also set a new meet record in 100 M freestyle event by clocking 55.93 seconds. Jashadeep Singh,of PU Campus also bettered the meet record with a timing of 56.61 seconds. Karan Brar got his second gold medal by clocking 26.12 seconds in 50 M butterfly. Kawalpreet Kaur of Government College for Girls,Ludhiana,held the spotlight by winning all the four gold medals. She also broke the old meet record by clocking 31.65 seconds in 50 M buttlerfly final. She went on to create another record as she timed 1:07.75 in 100 M freestyle event.The Ludhiana swimmer also obtained top spots in 100 M backstroke (1:28.69),100 M freestyle (1:07.75,NMR) and 100 M breaststroke (1:31.27) events.

DAV College clinch tennis title

DAV College,Sector 10 won the Panjab University Inter-College Tennis (Men) Championship after beating GGD SD College,Sector 32 by 2-1 in the final played at the PU Campus in Chandigarh on Wednesday. In the opening singles match,Digvijay Mehta got the better of Alok in straight sets 6-3,4-2 (retd) to give DAV College 1-0 lead.

GGD SD College made it 1-1 after Rahul beat Kamal in straight sets 6-0,6-2. In the doubles,Digvijay Mehta and Kamal sealed the fate of SD College. They beat Rahul and Prithvi 6-2,2-6,10-7 to clinch the issue for DAV College. PU Campus blanked PG Government College,Sector 11 by 2-0 to decide the third and fourth positions.

GCC Ludhiana champs

Govt. College for Girls,Ludhiana won the Panjab University Inter College Kho-Kho (Women) A-Division championship for the session 2013-14. PG Govt. College for Girls,Sec. 42,Chandigarh,Dev Samaj College for Women,Ferozepur City and Dev Samaj College for Women,Sec. 45,Chandigarh secured second,third and fourth positions respectively.

SCD Govt College claim chess title

SCD Govt. College,Ludhiana grabbed the Panjab University Inter College Chess (Women) Championship for the session 2013-14. Meanwhile,GGD SD College,Chandigarh,D.M. College,Moga and Sri Auribindo College of Commerce & Buss. Mgt.,Ludhiana secured second,third and fourth positions respectively.
