The Chandigarh Territorial Janata Dal (United) on Tuesday held a cycle rally to start its mass contact programme. The aim was to make people aware of the need for creation of Chandigarh as a state with a permanent status of Union Territory.
The rally,which started from the Sector 29-31 roundabout,covered the markets of northern sectors of Chandigarh and terminated at sector 7,8,18 and 19 roundabout.
A delegation led by Surinder Bhardwaj,president of the city unit of the party,along with other office-bearers submitted a memorandum to Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Shivraj V Patil. The other demands included formation of a Legislative Assembly after inclusion of the adjoining areas in Chandigarh.
