In the first executive meeting of the newly appointed Panjab University Teachers’ Association (PUTA) Tuesday, the committee advised the fellow teachers who are due for promotion under CAS to apply for it at the earliest. The meeting was presided over by president of PUTA, Professor Akshay Kumar.

Stating that PUTA would assist the administration in the process, the executive also urged the administration to devise criterion to appoint teachers to various administrative positions in the university. Expressing its resentment in the way teachers were being appointed in various committees, PUTA also passed a resolution requesting the PU authorities to not appoint a member in more than two university committees.

Issues pertaining to PhD increments, Child Care Leave (CCL) and delay in the release of DA were also discussed in the meeting. Currently, CCL has run into rough weather due to an objection raised by the resident audit officer. Members of PUTA said the committee would soon work towards the removal of these objections. The members were also asked to work towards a comprehensive demand charter which would be sent to the community soon for its feedback.
