Edmonton police have charged two individuals with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of Harshandeep Singh, a 20-year-old security guard, at a downtown apartment building early Friday morning.

Officers were called to the building near 106 Street and 107 Avenue at around 12:30 a.m. after reports of a gunshot. They found Singh unresponsive in a stairwell. Despite immediate medical attention and transport to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.

Police arrested 30-year-old Evan Rain and 30-year-old Judith Saulteaux, recovering a weapon during the operation. Authorities believe no one else was involved in the incident. Singh’s name was released both to assist the investigation and to address public safety concerns.

A chilling video purportedly capturing the moments leading up to Singh’s death has surfaced online. The footage shows a man, allegedly Rain, wielding a large firearm and striking someone off-camera before pushing Singh down a stairwell and shooting him in the back as he attempted to flee. Police have neither confirmed the video’s authenticity nor provided further details but stated that only two individuals were directly involved in the shooting.

Singh, who was reportedly an Indian student working as a security guard, was patrolling the building when the attack occurred. His death has sent shockwaves through the Edmonton community and among his family and friends, who remain in mourning as the investigation continues.

Police are appealing to the public for any additional information about the incident.
