Learn names of spices, record songs: This summer, Punjab schoolkids to focus on experiential learning-based homework

He said students are being given homework by their teachers on a weekly basis to avoid overburdening and the homework is designed in such a way that parents are not burdened financially.

According to the homework activity sheets shared by the minister, kids have been given a table on which they have to tick mark good habits practiced every day, such as greeting elders in the family every morning, making their own bed after getting up in the morning, not leaving leftover after having food and to be grateful to at least one person every day.

Similarly, students in Classes 1 to 5 have been asked to sing and record a children’s song or any song of their choice, solve riddles in Punjabi with the help of family, make craft items using household goods, count steps while walking to learn numbers, prepare a nameplate for home, learn names of spices and pulses in the kitchen and to note the time of sunrise and sunset every day in a notebook.

Activities given to students of Classes 6 to 8 include – reading a newspaper and preserving one news clipping every day, learning the names of spices in the kitchen and asking parents how they are used in cooking, planting a sapling on Environment Day (June 5), noting the amount of water used by one in a whole day, looking in the mirror and speaking some lines with confidence and sitting with elders to learn about their childhood experiences.
