The Punjab government has declared a gazetted holiday on October 15 on account of the panchayat elections across the state.
As per the orders, issued by Chief Secretary Anurag Verma, all schools, colleges, government offices, and all institutions will remain closed on the day.
A holiday has been declared at all Punjab government offices, institutions and educational institutes in Chandigarh. The holiday has been declared under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881.
The state election commission had written to the state government to declare the holiday on October 15, so that every citizen is able to cast their franchise on the day of elections. Over 13,000 panchayats will go to polls on October 15.
On October 17, there will be a holiday in Punjab on account of Valmiki Jayanti.
Since Dussehra is falling on October 12, Saturday, it is not a gazetted holiday in the state this time.
