Punjab man shot dead in California, kin says for refusing to sell liquor to minor

(Express Photo) A 27-year-old youth from Punjab’s Hoshiarpur was tragically shot dead in the United States Friday morning (Indian time) for refusing to sell liquor to a minor, his family claimed. The victim, identified as Parveen Kumar from Aalto Bhatti village in Mukerian subdivision of Hoshiarpur, was working as a store manager in Victorville city, California.
According to Suram Singh, the uncle of the deceased, Parveen had moved to the US in 2017 and had been employed at a store.
“My children, who also live there, informed me that on Thursday evening (US time), when Parveen was alone at the store, a 15-16-year-old Mexican boy entered and asked for liquor. Parveen refused as US government laws prohibit sale of liquor to minors. Following this, the boy opened fire and shot Parveen in the abdomen before fleeing the scene,”said Suram Singh.
