Meet Vivek Datta, the visionary Managing Director and CEO of Globe Toyota, pioneering a sustainable future in the automotive industry. With a passion for environmental stewardship and a commitment to excellence, Vivek is spearheading initiatives to reduce carbon footprint and enhance customer experience.

I, Me, Myself

I am Vivek Datta, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Globe Toyota, a JCBL Group Company. We are a thriving multi-location automotive dealership business specialising in passenger and commercial vehicles across the vibrant states of Haryana and Punjab in North India. I bring to the table a solid foundation in commerce, having graduated from Delhi University. Further fortifying my knowledge, I pursued a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Studies from IMT Ghaziabad, enhancing my strategic management acumen. My professional journey commenced with Procter & Gamble, where I underwent the P&G Sales training program, gaining invaluable insights into the dynamics of the FMCG sector. Over the years, I have honed my skills through diverse experiences at The JCBL Group, including international business, manufacturing procurement processes, and excelling in sales. We are moving forward with a pledge to reduce our carbon footprint by an ambitious 50% by the year 2030. This initiative stems from our unwavering dedication to environmental stewardship, sustainability, and our vision to become the most profitable green, eco-friendly dealership group in the region.

Motivation behind initiating and managing dealership vertical

I initiated the dealership vertical to provide employment opportunities and top-notch automotive services to the people of Punjab and Haryana. Our primary goal is to deliver happiness through Brand Globe Toyota, ensuring the best-in-class customer experience at every touchpoint. Whether a customer is just enquiring or purchasing their dream car, seeking after-sales services, or considering the exchange or upgrade of their old car, we strive to provide excellence. Our commitment extends to serving society by minimising carbon footprint through the provision of sustainable yet affordable vehicles, including our SHEV (Strong Electric Hybrid Vehicles such as Hyryder, Hycross, Camry, Vellfire). We aim to contribute significantly to the economic growth of the region.

Notable achievements

Some of our noteworthy achievements encompass consistently achieving high customer satisfaction, expanding our customer base, and fostering strong relationships with our customers through our after-sales services. Guided by the philosophy of ‘Customer First,’ our teams are dedicated to our pledge of “Touch Customers’ Heart and not his Pocket.” Globe Toyota has garnered much appreciation from our Principals, Toyota Kirloskar, over the last 20 years for being recognised as one of the Best of Best Dealers, not only in North India but across the entire country.

Significant challenges encountered

The diverse mix of customers in Punjab and Haryana, with variations in language, culture, and habits, has presented challenges. We have successfully navigated these challenges by prioritizing personalized customer service and cultivating a diverse, well-trained team capable of addressing the specific needs of each customer. Achieving On-Time Delivery in after-sales services poses a challenge in today’s fast-paced environment, where every customer expects their vehicle within 90 minutes. We are actively working towards meeting this demanding goal while also striving to make new vehicles, especially in the Hybrid range, available to every customer at the earliest, despite facing challenges posed by global supply chain constraints.

Future plans for the company

Our future plans include sustained growth in revenue and profits, coupled with a steadfast commitment to environmental responsibility and the reduction of our carbon footprint. We aim to achieve these goals by implementing more sustainable practices and promotion of eco-friendly vehicles. We take pride in sharing the Globe Toyota’s vision to become the Most Profitable GREEN dealership by 2030. Initiatives in this direction include the adoption of solar energy consumption, optimization of air conditioning usage, and the long-standing practice of recycling and reusing water for plant irrigation and vehicle maintenance. State-of-the-art ETP and STP plants have been Installed across our locations. At Globe Toyota, our workshops operate with a focus on monitoring natural resource consumption per vehicle, adhering to government norms for waste disposal. Additionally, all Globe Toyota branches have successfully attained the prestigious first in region ESG Certification (Environment, Social, and Corporate Governance) – a testament to our commitment to sustainability, verified through a detailed audit conducted by CRIF Europe.

Expectations from the government

We anticipate government support for the automotive industry through policies that foster sustainable practices, invest in infrastructure, and incentivize the adoption of eco-friendly technologies, especially electric vehicles. We advocate for policies that streamline business operations, promote economic growth, and suggest the Government of India to reduce the GST and other taxes in the automobile sector. Introducing a Carbon Emission tax is also encouraged, ensuring that organizations emitting higher carbon emissions face higher taxes, while those actively reducing their carbon footprints are not subjected to additional taxation.

Engagement in meaningful pursuits

Apart from business, I actively engage in various community and social initiatives that hold personal meaning and bring fulfillment. These endeavors include supporting local government schools that lack essential infrastructure, such as clean toilets, with a particular focus on addressing the needs of female students. Additionally, we take proactive measures to provide study tables and benches to these schools, often frequented by economically weaker section (EWS) children. Collaborating closely with local administration, we participate in environmental conservation efforts and extend our support to government-run healthcare centers situated in rural areas, away from the main cities of the tricity. In addition to routine contributions, we actively seek collaborations with these healthcare centers to provide essential items such as heaters and blankets for patients during winters, clean drinking water coolers, and RO systems for clean drinking water during summers, among other initiatives.
