The UT is set to see a confrontation between officers of the states and AGMUT cadre next week. The Punjab and Haryana civil services officers today joined hands against the “favouritism” shown to the AGMUT cadre.

The officers of the two states held a meeting today and decided to meet UT Advisor K K Sharma to take up the issue. It was also decided that the HCS and PCS officers’ associations would meet the Chief Ministers and Chief Secretaries of their respective states and air their grievances.

At the meeting, they rued that ‘prominence’ was being given to AGMUT cadre officers while officers from the states were being “sidelined”. While the HCS officers in the city held a meeting on Thursday evening, they were joined by the PCS officers today.

An officer who attended the meeting said,“All key posts in the city are being given to UT cadre IAS officers. Apart from HCS and PCS officers, even IAS officers from the states are being divested of key departments. The posts that were traditionally given to officers from the states are being given to the UT cadre. We have decided to meet the Advisor and are hoping for suitable redressal of our grievances.”

Over the past few months, the city has seen key departments being given to AGMUT officers. The immediate provocation for the officers to join hands is reportedly the appointment of IAS officer Prerna Puri as IT secretary. The governments of Punjab and Haryana had raised objections to the two newly created posts of secretaries to be filled by AGMUT officers. Puri,a 2006 batch officer, was recently handed over charge. The departments given to her were being managed by UT Finance Secretary V K Singh, who is a Punjab cadre IAS officer.

UT Home Secretary Anil Kumar,a Haryana cadre IAS officer, when appointed to the post in December, found some departments that were traditionally held by the Home Secretary being given to IAS Satya Gopal, who is from the AGMUT cadre.
