Engineering student shot dead in Punjab’s Kharar, friend injured

An engineering student was allegedly shot dead by unidentified assailants in the Kharar town of Punjab’s Mohali district Monday. His friend was injured in the shooting, said the police.

The victim, Anuj, studied at a private university in Gharuan and stayed at a paying-guest facility in the Bhagomajra village near Kharar, said the police. A preliminary investigation indicated that he belonged to Bhiwani in Haryana and previously had a dispute with some people in his hometown.

Superintendent of Police (Rural) Manpreet Singh said the police started an investigation and they suspect personal enmity behind the murder.

The police registered a First Information Report (FIR) under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) and Arms Act Section 25 at the Kharar (city) police station.
