According to reports, the Punjab government has accepted his plea to retire voluntarily. His file would now be sent to the Department of Personnel and Training, Government of India. If the Centre accepts his application, he will be relieved.
Sources said Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had spoken to him and asked him to reconsider his decision. But he had stated that he would retire. Prasad is due to retire in 2030.
This is not the first time that Prasad has sought premature retirement. During former chief minister Amarinder Singh’s regime also, he had put in his papers. He, however, reconsidered his decision after Amarinder Singh had asked him to do so.
