The Punjab government Monday found itself in the thick of a controversy as opposition BJP accused it of influencing young minds by inserting questions about the ruling Aam Aadmi Party in the Class 12 examination paper conducted by Punjab School Education Board.

The BJP claimed that two questions — one pertaining to the year when the AAP was founded and the other on its policies and programmes — were part of the Political Science examination paper conducted on March 4.

The BJP’s media head in Punjab Vineet Joshi accused the Bhagwant Mann-led government of “misusing” the education department to “influence” young minds in their favour. “This is a blatant misuse of power by the AAP… The education department cannot act like a mouthpiece of the ruling establishment. Minds of … potential voters cannot be influenced using the crutches of the education department,” Joshi said.

While state education minister Harjot Bains could not be reached despite several attempts, multiple officials in the PSEB said similar questions were asked about other political parties in the past.
